Buying a motorhome, be it new or used, is a major investment.
Luckily, there are some great resources to help you make an informed decision – here are some of the best.
You’re going to want to read up on any motorhome you might consider buying. This part is easy as there are numerous impartial sites doing just that – giving honest reviews of all the new and used motorhomes on the market.
A couple of examples are Practical Motorhomes and Outandaboutlive – you can find loads more as well just by putting motorhome review into Google.
You can use reviews to narrow the field to a few contenders, and then googling a specific model or two will bring up a wealth more information from forums, reviews and even YouTube videos.
As mentioned above, forums are a great source of information – and it’s information from owners rather than anyone you might deem to have a vested interest.
There are forums at motorhome fun and the Camping and Caravanning Club (members only), and of course others too.
Forums give you a great chance to ask questions, rather than just taking in the information contained in a review somewhat more passively. Want to know what a certain model is like to drive, or if people have views which of two similar models are the better buy? Just find the right forum and ask.
Of course you’ll look up prices for makes and models you are considering buying, but it’s also worth looking ahead to the future.
As an example, if you’re thinking of buying a new Burstner, have a look at what a two-year-old Burstner tends to sell for – how does the depreciation compare to that of other makes and models?
If you have £50,000 to invest in a motorhome, you can choose to put that into a modest new motorhome, or a luxury model with a few more years and miles on the clock. Both might be £50,000 today, but in five years’ time both would have very different values – the older model might have even held up far better.
Does this matter to your long-term planning?
Comparing how the values of makes and models, both new and used, hold up is invaluable research – it could save you tens of thousands of pounds over the life of the motorhome.
Motorhome news
Are motorhome news sites only for the likes of us at Emm Bee who live and breathe motorhomes?!
We think not: we think they are of value to anyone looking to buy a motorhome.
They often have reviews of models soon to hit the market, while other bits of information can be of use too.
You might learn that a new model is set to hit the market in a few months, does this mean delaying your purchase makes sense as existing models might drop in price a little?
It can’t hurt to be informed, can it?
We recommend Outandaboutlive (again!) – and check out their What’s Motorhome magazine – and also UK Motorhomes.
