We don’t know about you, but a new year always gets us thinking of blank canvases and new adventures to fill them.
We spend our days dreaming of everything the coming year could bring and the endless possibilities of the open road. At Emm Bee, new years also have us seeking out new ideas and progress in motorhome trends and technologies.
With that in mind, we thought we’d take a sneak peek at what exciting things the world of motorhomes has in store for us in 2017, and maybe throw in a few ideas of our own!
Business is booming
We had a ream the other night in which we were roaming around Europe running a mobile crêperie from the side of our motorhome. Random? Maybe. But what’s the use in dreams if they aren’t a little wild?
But really, with more and more of us choosing to work flexibly, from home, or take charge completely and go it alone with our own business, why not swap cramped, uninspiring spare bedrooms and strip-lit offices for the flexibility of an office on wheels?
With the possibility of a different view everyday, you’ll never find yourself uninspired again.
We aren’t the only ones to think that combining our livelihoods with our love of the motorhome lifestyle is a great idea, from software developers and nursing professors to jewellery designers, over at technomadia, they’ve truly sussed living the work on wheels life.
And with reductions in mobile broadband costs – from September 2016 Three covers the whole of Europe at their standard rate – it’s increasingly possible to get online using your smartphone’s personal hotspot or an unlocked MiFi device. External antennas can boost your connection even further, so your business really can grow – wherever you choose to go.
Power up
We all know that the motorhome life is about switching off and escaping the ordinary but sometimes we don’t want that to be totally literal. We want the freedom to explore, but most of us don’t want to go completely off grid.
If we want the kids to be entertained with TVs and tablets, light to read by, hot water to shower with or even to start that business venture, then we need power. It’s hard to have total spontaneity if you’re racing for the nearest electricity hook up.
If you want to be truly free to roam but still able to power up, then we think adding solar power to your motorhome is a fantastic idea.
Solar power brings with it total freedom, the joy of knowing we are doing our best to protect the environment, and a brilliant long term money-saver. If you’re keen to live a solar powered life, there are great tips to discovering exactly which panels will suit your needs over at The Camping and Caravanning Club.
The place to be
Now that you’re powered up and open for business, just where should you go? We’ve had a look at some of the destinations Lonely Planet predicts will be the places to go in 2017… and our feet are itching!
With two of the top ten regions on LP’s list right here in the UK, we can’t wait to get on the road! The rejuvenation of North Wales as a surfing, scrambling, thrill-seeker’s dream and the designation of Snowdonia National Park as star gazing “dark sky reserve”, give it something to offer everyone.
And Star Wars fans will get a thrill from heading to Ireland’s Skellig Ring and Skellig Michael in the Atlantic – the beautifully dramatic scenery featured in The Force Awakens and set to star again in this year’s The Last Jedi.
