And so the new year stretches ahead of us like a beautiful open road ready to be explored (that is unless you’ve happened across this link during the summer – thanks Google!)
What will the new year hold and how should the motorhome owner prepare for it?
Here are our New Year resolutions for the motorhome owner.
I know I said that last year, and also when I bought you, and then also after that trip to the Lakes. I know how many times I’ve told myself ‘never to let you get in this state again’.
Well, this year, it’s going to be different. I’m going to give you a thorough clean once a week – definitely outside, maybe inside if I can be bothered. Oh, and I might even give you a buff too.
We’ve had some great trips, met lovely people, but maybe we’ve played it a bit safe?
I’m not thinking of just filling up the tank and driving randomly south, but we could be a bit more adventurous… France has all those free spots where you can park up for the night – let’s buy a good guide, a ferry ticket and go off and properly explore the continent.
Dave and Mary (names may vary) who we met last year and said we’d stay in touch with.
Let’s actually do that, OK, maybe we don’t have to get in touch with Dave and Mary, but whoever we meet and bond with this year, let’s make sure we make more of an effort to stay in contact.
We always forget something – and it’s not even the same thing we always forget. But, without fail, we park up and then it hits us – ‘Oh no, the corkscrew isn’t here, I remember taking it into the house when I couldn’t find the one usually in the kitchen draw’ Or, ‘playing cards, where are they?’ or ‘I’m sure I packed that book somewhere, or ‘don’t worry Sally, I’m sure Mr Cuddlesworth is here somewhere (he isn’t).
Let’s make lists and tick things off, it might not be the most fun of tasks, but at least it saves those small holiday stresses.
We’ve got a cracking motorhome, but is it time for a change? Given the trade-in value of ours, we might not have to spend a huge amount and I’ve heard that more recent motorhomes have some superb new features. Also, I quite fancy Bluetooth connectivity so I can inflict my playlist on everyone – driver’s prerogative after all.
Let’s be more adventurous, let’s go for more short breaks. We’ve got a hotel on wheels, let’s use it more, whether it’s a trip to the south coast, the Peak District, into Scotland or exploring the Welsh countryside.
Let’s stay at home less and go out more, it doesn’t have to be a huge military operation, just getting in the motorhome on a Friday evening and returning home on the Sunday after a great couple of days. Those weekend chores can always wait.
Why don’t we go to a motorhome show – there we can see all the latest models as well as accessories and get travel advice. All under one roof!
There are a number of events throughout the year, starting with a major show just outside Manchester in January…
