Motorhome holidays are conducive to great conversations, but there are a few things you are unlikely to hear said. Here, we run through a few of the most common.
-
It’s too crowded here.
If you do hear this one, it’s probably because you’ve stopped off at a supermarket for provisions, or decided to head into town for the day.
The rest of the time, you have as much peace and quiet as you want. You can find a quiet site to park up and relax and, if you do ever find anywhere that bit too busy, you have wheels. You can drive away.
-
I thought the view would be better.
Go for a package holiday, or just turn up at a hotel and you leave the view to chance. You might strike lucky, or you might have a view of a wall, or perhaps a building site.
Hotels have many good points, but often great views aren’t among them. We are reminded of Basil Fawlty asking a guest what they expect the view to be (and the guest could have found something far worse than a view of the Torquay sands).
With a motorhome, you can choose any great view that takes your fancy, be that for a lengthy stay, or just parking up to enjoy the view and a picnic.
-
What are we going to do about food?
Eating out can cost a small fortune on holiday and also requires finding somewhere that fits the needs of everyone in the party.
That’s great for the occasional meal out, but after a busy day sightseeing or on the beach it can all be a bit of a hassle. With a motorhome, though, you have a great kitchen so you can knock a great meal whenever you rock up back at your holiday accommodation.
Motorhome cooking is also a great chance to try out some local specialities – pick up some local produce from local stores and then cook it up, perhaps washing it all down with a glass of cool, reasonably priced wine.
-
I’m a bit bored
It happens on most holidays, the kids have moments of boredom, perhaps right about when you just want a relaxing evening in.
However, a motorhome is a home from home. The kids can bring all their home comforts, you can even pack the Xbox if it helps entertain them while you enjoy a bit of you time. And, if everyone has had enough of one particular site; just move on.

A three hour transfer?
If there’s one thing designed to get a holiday off to a stressful start it’s the trials and tribulations of getting to your destination; or at least if you haven’t got a nice comfy motorhome.
For most holidaymakers, the start of the holiday goes – arrive at airport, go through check-in, kill loads of time, fly to destination (probably snatching 30 minutes’ sleep on a noisy plane), wait for baggage on the carousel (worrying that yours will be one of the bags that fell off the little lorry), get on a coach, wait an hour for the last passenger to get on the coach, endure a three-hour transfer.
Not fun…
6) Let’s not do this again next year…
You should never think this at the end of a holiday but sometimes, when it’s all a bit of a let down, you might.
It might be any of the factors above – the transfer, the hotel, the other people, the climate. With a motorhome, you have so much more control and freedom. With a motorhome, you’ll be saying ‘let’s do this again next year – actually, why wait a whole year?’
